Etéreo, Auberge Resorts
We spent five days at Etéreo, Auberge Resorts Collection in the Riviera Maya last November, right on the beach, turquoise water and white sand the whole stretch. The flight from New York is short enough that you can leave in the middle of winter and be somewhere warm within a few hours, which on its own is most of the appeal in November.

The whole property is built to work with the landscape rather than against it, plenty of green space, good views wherever you end up. There are several infinity pools to choose from, and a proper spa if you want to spend a day on that instead.
Rooms range from suites to private villas, some with their own plunge pools. Ours looked straight out onto greenery, and the shower alone was bigger than most New York bathrooms.
Itzam ended up being our home base for the whole trip, we had most of our meals there. It's a modern take on Mexican food, built around local ingredients, right over the water.
We had a massage at Sana Spa, built around Mayan healing techniques, and it held up to what I've come to expect from Auberge spas specifically, the therapists across their properties are consistently some of the best trained I've come across anywhere.
The hot stone massage used warm black obsidian, which is specific to the property and part of what made it stand out from a standard hot stone treatment. Between the stones themselves and the technique, it left me feeling genuinely more grounded, not just relaxed in the usual spa-day way.
Lunch at El Changarro, right on the beach, became a daily thing for us. The octopus and shrimp ceviche was the standout, and I still think about it more than I'd like to admit.
