Egg Canvas is a visual journal by Erica Choi, a New York–based creative director, licensed esthetician, and co-founder of Superegg—a vegan skincare brand rooted in wellness. Inspired by the time-honored rituals of Korean beauty and the symbolic nourishment of the egg, Superegg reimagines its benefits through advanced plant-based science. Each formula blends clinical actives with botanical wisdom, transforming daily skincare into intentional, restorative ritual.

Launched in 2014, Egg Canvas began as an extension of Erica’s Instagram presence @eggcanvas, and has since evolved into a curated destination for fashion, beauty, travel, and lifestyle—each story shaped by her thoughtful, design-driven lens.

Erica holds a BFA in Graphic Design from the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) and brings over a decade of experience in the luxury space. She previously served as Vice President of Digital Design at Barneys New York, where she led the brand’s digital creative direction. Her refined aesthetic and passion for intentional living continue to guide her creative work across platforms.

Behind the name

The name Egg Canvas is rooted in dalgyal, the Korean word for egg, a childhood nickname given to Erica for her smooth, egg-shaped face. Together, egg and canvas reflect a philosophy of living: nourishment and potential paired with the openness of a blank canvas. Each day is a chance to create, evolve, and begin again with intention.

FAQs

  • I use the Ricoh GR III (GR IV is newer) most often for everyday photography. Its compact size makes it easy to carry everywhere, and I love it for capturing spontaneous moments, street scenes, and daily life. For more professional work, I primarily use the Leica Q3.

    I’ve also been using the Sony a7R III since 2017. For the Sony, my favorite daily lens is the 24mm f/1.8. It’s slightly wide and does nicely in low-light situations. The 35mm f/2.8 is also very compact and great for everyday street photography, while the 20mm f/1.8 is best for interiors and wide shots, similar to 0.5x on an iPhone. Outfits and portraits with creamy bokeh are shot with a 55mm f/1.8 or 85mm f/1.4 GM.

  • I use Adobe Lightroom Classic to edit photos from my cameras, and VSCO for photos taken on my iPhone.

  • I was born in Busan, South Korea, and immigrated to the United States with my parents when I was two years old. I grew up in New Jersey and moved to New York City after graduating from RISD in 2009. After all these years, I’m proud to call myself a New Yorker!

  • Hoon and I got married at City Hall in April 2012 and celebrated our wedding that September. Our reception took place at Jungsik in TriBeCa, which at the time was the only Korean restaurant in the world with two Michelin stars. It was especially meaningful to us because Hoon’s company, Why Not Smile, had created the restaurant’s branding, photography, and interiors.

    A week later, we held our wedding ceremony in Korea at Hoon’s alma mater, Seoul National University. The following day, we left for our honeymoon in Bora Bora. Everything went by in a whirlwind, but every moment was incredibly special.

  • I’ve always struggled with balance and likely will for the rest of my life. It’s a constant work in progress, especially in a city like New York. I built Superegg in part to help people like myself find moments of balance through daily rituals of care for the skin, body, and mind.

    I’ve come to appreciate the small moments I can carve out for myself throughout the day. An hour-long Pilates or yoga class, reading a chapter of a book, or listening to a favorite song while enjoying a face mask may seem simple, but these moments of care add up over time.
