Susurros del Corazón, Auberge Resorts
I was recently in Punta de Mita for two of my best friends' birthdays, staying at Susurros del Corazón, an Auberge Resorts property that's now genuinely one of my favorites. The setting does a lot of the work on its own, sand, ocean, green everywhere you look, but it's hard to separate how much of that was the place and how much was just being there with people I love for something worth celebrating.
Our first experience at the resort was a Cacao Ceremony led by Gina, a medicine woman who walked us through the role cacao has played in Mayan culture for thousands of years, as a tool for healing and connection rather than just a drink.
Each of us got a cup of cacao infused with herbs and spices, said "I receive love, I give love," and passed it to the person next to us. We sat with it for a while, turning our attention inward toward whatever we'd come there wanting. Afterward, everyone shared what came up during the ceremony, and Gina gave each of us a personal wish tied to our birthday. Given that the whole trip was built around celebrating two of those birthdays, that part landed harder than I expected it to.
The room looked out over the Pacific, and we woke up most mornings to actual waves, not a recording of them, sun coming in through the curtains before either of us had reached for a phone.

We spent an afternoon at the pool cabana and had lunch at Acapulco, seafood, good and fresh.

One of my favorite parts of Susurros was just the eating, honestly. The food leans on local ingredients, the cocktails are well made, and the service is the kind that makes you feel taken care of without it ever feeling stiff.

It gets harder to find real time with friends as everyone's life fills up with work and family, so this trip meant more than a normal vacation would have. We got to actually catch up, not just check in.
